What is E45 Dermatological Hand Cream
E45 Hand Cream is a non-greasy cream which provides long-lasting moisturisation to dry, rough and chapped hands. The intensive formula is light-weight so is quickly absorbed by the skin for fast and easy hydration.
What causes dry skin on your hands?
Dry skin can appear when our hands cannot maintain moisture, resulting in roughness and dehydration. In extreme conditions, this can lead to skin cracking which can result in pain, bleeding or infection. There are a number of factors that can cause dry skin on the hands including:
Dry air
Without a sufficient amount of humidity in the air, our skin can become dehydrated. This can happen in both warm and cold temperatures. In winter, temperatures plunge which can decrease the amount of humidity in the air. Indoor heating can also take away moisture from the air.
Dehydration
Not drinking enough water during the day can lead to all sorts of problems, including dizziness and fainting but it can also cause our skin to dry out. Staying hydrated ensures that our skin stays soft and supple.
Excessive hand washing
When we wash our hands, we strip our skin of its natural oils. Excessive handwashing can dry our hands out and leave them scaly and prone to cracking.
Medications
Many topical medicines can contain ingredients that dry out our skin.
Underlying conditions
There are a few medical conditions which can cause dry hands:
- Eczema- A long-term skin condition that makes the skin itchy, red, dry and cracked.
- Psoriasis- Causes flaky, red patches of skin that are covered in silver scales.
- Diabetes- Caused by high blood glucose levels in the blood which takes moisture away from the skin.
Always consult your doctor if you think your dry hands are a result of a medical condition.
Genetics
There is research to suggest that dry skin can be inherited. Mutations that control the production of proteins used to form the skin’s protective barrier can cause dry skin. People with these mutations are more likely to experience dry skin or skin conditions such as eczema.
Why should we take care of our hands?
We know that moisturising our face and body is important to fight dry skin, replenish our skin’s protective barrier and keep our skin soft and supple, the same applies to our hands. We wash our hands many times a day and use them in many tasks which can take their toll on the skin on our hands. Using a hand moisturiser such as E45 Moisturising Hand Cream, after washing throughout the day can keep them hydrated and prevent dry skin, cracks and irritation.
How does E45 Hand cream work?
E45 Hand Cream provides intensive, long-lasting moisturisation for dry hands. This hand cream does not contain irritating perfumes and is dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic to prevent irritation. This product contains a combination of lipids that restores the skin’s natural barrier and rehydrates the skin. The non-greasy formula is light-weight and easily absorbed by the skin and leaves the hands feeling soft and supple.
What is a lipid?
Lipids are the skin’s natural fats. They are important components of the skin as they play an essential role in maintaining the strength of the skin’s protective barrier which holds moisture, protects the skin from damage and keeps dirt and germs out. Lipids also aid the skin’s natural repair process.
The most important lipids are:
- Cholesterol- helps to accelerate the skin barrier’s recovery and improve the appearance of skin elasticity
- Ceramides- this type of lipid is proven to increase the skin’s hydration and barrier function
- Fatty acids- helps to maintain the skin’s lipid balance
