What is Savlon Antiseptic Cream?

Savlon Antiseptic Cream can help to prevent infection, provide relief and aid the natural healing of minor wounds, burns and skin reactions. This caring formula helps to cleanse cuts, grazes and minor wounds to prevent infection. It can also be used as a first aid treatment for superficial burns and scalds in addition to preventing infection on shaving cuts, blisters and sores. If you’re looking for an effective treatment for small injuries and skin afflictions, try Savlon Antiseptic Cream.

How to use this product

Always use Savlon Antiseptic Cream exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. Wash and dry hands prior to use. Then, using as much product as required, apply the cream onto the affected area. Do not use this product on the eyes or the ears.

What is the difference between antiseptic and antibacterial?

The two sound similar, but they’re quite different. Antibacterial products can effectively kill or slow down the growth of bacteria, but not viruses. Whereas antiseptics can prevent viruses, bacteria and fungi from growing.

What is the best way to treat small wounds?

Most small injuries like cuts and grazes are easily treated in the home and should start to heal within a few days. If the wound is bleeding, apply pressure to the affected area using a clean, dry and absorbent material such as a bandage, towel or handkerchief for several minutes. If the cut is on your hand or arm, raise it above your head to help reduce the flow of blood to the injured area. If the injury is on the leg or foot, lie down and raise your legs.

When the wound has stopped bleeding, clean it thoroughly. Wash and dry your hands and clean the wound by placing it under clean water. Pat the area dry with a clean towel. Apply an antiseptic, like Savlon, if required, followed by a sterile, adhesive dressing. Keep the dressing clean by changing it when necessary. Check the wound regularly and if it’s closed, you can remove the dressing.

Is Savlon Antiseptic Cream suitable for children?

Yes, Savlon Antiseptic Cream is suitable for children. However, certain Savlon products are only suitable for children over the age of 12. Always read the instruction manual carefully before applying any Savlon product to your child.

When should this product not be used?

Savlon Antiseptic Cream may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. This product is for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, middle ear and other nervous tissues.

Are there any side effects?

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
