The moment your baby gets their first teeth, you should start to take them to have regular dental check-ups to see if they’re growing as they should.
Babies, toddlers, and children can get cavities easily - this is why you should develop a frequent dental habit at a young age to prevent any problems as their adult teeth start to set in.
What should I give to my teething baby?
Teething can be uncomfortable for your baby, but there are ways to help ease their symptoms.
You can give your baby sugar-free painkillers like Calpol, or see if they take to a teething ring that can be cooled in the fridge.
You can also try teething gels, but it’s recommended to try other methods first.
If your baby is 6 months and over, you can give them healthy things to chew on like raw vegetables, but always keep an eye on them to ensure they don’t choke.
Which products are best to clean a toddler’s teeth?
It’s best to find products for your toddler that they like and are fun for them to use as an incentive for them to brush their teeth twice a day.
Find a toothbrush in their favourite colour or one that features a character they like - but make sure the toothbrush is suitable for their age and is made with soft bristles so it’s gentle on their gums.
For toothpaste, select a toddler-friendly variety; these tend to be in tasty flavours that they won’t feel inclined to spit out.
How long should children brush their teeth?
You should help your child to brush their teeth for 2 minutes at a time, twice a day, once in the morning and again before they go to bed.
This will ensure that all of their teeth are brushed properly, and if you use a timer you can make brushing their teeth a game as you both count down to 2 minutes.
