What is Covonia Dry Cough Sugar Free Formula?

Covonia Dry Cough Sugar Free Formula is a liquid medicine used to relieve the symptoms of a dry or irritating cough. The active ingredient in Covonia Dry Cough Sugar Free Formula is pholcodine and is suitable for adults and children over 12 years old.

What is the recommended dosage?

The recommended dosage for adults and children over 12 years old is one or two 5ml spoonfuls, three or four times a day. You must not give more than 4 doses in 24 hours. Do not give this medicine to children under 12 years old.

How does pholcodine treat a dry cough?

The active ingredient in Covonia Dry Cough Sugar Free Formula is pholcodine, a type of medicine called an opioid antitussive used to suppress coughing. This ingredient works directly on the cough centre in the brain to help control and stop coughing.

What is a dry cough?

Most of us get a cough from time to time, but how do you tell the difference between a dry or chesty cough? A chesty cough is also known as a wet or phlegmy cough, where you would typically cough up mucus or phlegm. A dry cough, however, is non-productive, meaning you won’t be coughing up anything. Dry coughs often occur due to colds, flu, asthma or hay fever.

When should this product not be used?

Covonia Dry Cough Sugar Free Formula is suitable for most adults and children over the age of 12, however, you should not use this medicine if:

  • You have liver disease, breathing difficulties or chest problems

  • You have ever developed a severe skin rash with peeling or blistering and/or sores in the mouth after taking this medicine or similar medicines

You should talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking this medicine if:

  • You have kidney or liver problems

  • You have a history of asthma or other breathing problems including bronchitis

  • You have had a cough for a long time or a cough which produces a lot of phlegm

  • You have a history of drug abuse

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • You are taking any other medicines or herbal remedies, including those obtained without a prescription
