Manuka honey has antibacterial properties which can help to relieve sore throats, aid wound healing, and even improve digestion. It’s multi-purpose, too, so you can apply it to your skin, stir some into your tea, or take it straight from the spoon - the choice is yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can manuka honey help with acid reflux?

Manuka honey has a reputation for being a ‘superfood’ and some people claim that it’s able to ease the symptoms of acid reflux, amongst other things.

This is thought to work with the honey coating the stomach and oesophagus, potentially helping to heal the damage caused by acid reflux.

It’s best to take a spoonful up to four times a day, 20 minutes before meals and before you go to sleep.

Does manuka honey have an expiry date?

Honey doesn’t typically expire if it’s been stored correctly, i.e out of direct sunlight, not exposed to harsh heat and hasn’t been frozen.

It’s been said that the effectiveness of honey will decline over time - but with Manuka honey, you can rest assured that you can still get the goodness until at least the expiry date on the jar.

However, it’s been recommended that you consume your jar of honey within three years of opening to be safe.

Can honey help my sore throat?

Honey has natural antibacterial properties that can heal wounds, reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

If you're constantly coughing, this may aggravate your sore throat, but honey also works as a cough suppressant which will give the irritated throat tissue time to heal.

You can take honey with a spoon, or mix it into warm water or tea.

What causes a sore throat?

A sore throat can present many symptoms - it might feel scratchy, dry, tender, itchy, or have a raw, burning sensation, typically when you talk or swallow.

Your throat and tonsils may be swollen, red, or have white spotting.

A sore throat is very common and is usually caused by a cold or flu virus, which will go away on its own.

It could also be caused by bacteria, which you may need treatment for if your symptoms don’t improve.
