What is Hedrin 4% Lotion?

This Hedrin Lotion is a treatment that works to provide relief for head lice that have become infested in the hair. This lotion works to kill the lice and make it easier to remove them. It works thanks to the active ingredient dimeticone. Dimeticone is a silicone-based substance that doesn’t work like other types of treatment where the lice are poisoned. Instead, this essentially drowns them by coating them and preventing them from being able to move. This means that the lice will never become immune to this treatment.

How do head lice get into the scalp?

Head lice are contagious and spread. The chances are likely that is one person in a family had head lice, then the others are likely to do so as well. They spread due to touching heads and also sharing things such as combs, brushes, headphones, and hats. Head lice can also live in furniture and fabrics for a short time too.

Who is this lotion suitable for?

This lotion is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 6 months and older. Only use on children under 6 months of age on medical advice. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients that are contained in the lotion. This lotion is suitable to be used when using any other form of medication.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this lotion?

There is no evidence of any issues when pregnant or breastfeeding and using this Hedrin Lotion. However, it is recommended that a medical professional is consulted for advice before using.

How should Hedrin 4% Lotion be used?

All members of the family that are infected with head lice should be treated on the same day, to reduce the risk of re-infestation. Apply the lotion to dry hair. To apply the hair, in particular, long hair is to apply the lotion evenly over the hair and ensure that the scalp is fully covered. Work the lotion into the hair by spreading it evenly into the hair, from the roots to the tips. Leave the lotion on for 8 hours, or overnight. Wash and dry the hair naturally afterwards. Use the lotion again after 7 days. This is important because the lotion does not treat eggs, and they could have hatched after using the treatment.

Are there any side effects?

  • Breathing problems
