What is Eumovate Eczema and Dermatitis Cream 0.05%?

Eumovate Cream is a treatment for eczema and dermatitis, helping to ease irritation caused by flare-ups. It’s ideal for times when your flare-ups cause inflammation, itching, and redness, helping to relieve these symptoms effectively. Eumovate helps you to break the itch-scratch cycle which can cause your skin more irritation and damage as you manage your eczema or dermatitis.

When would I use Eumovate Cream?

Eumovate Cream is used to treat inflammation caused by flare-ups of eczema or dermatitis. These dry skin conditions can cause inflammation, itching, and redness, which this cream can help to treat and control.

Can I use this product for psoriasis?

If you have psoriasis you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Eumovate. Although topical steroids like this cream can be used as a treatment for mild to moderate psoriasis, it may not be the most suitable treatment for you. If a medical professional does recommend using this product to treat your psoriasis, be sure to use it exactly as they have instructed as you should only use it on small or particularly thick areas of skin.

What are eczema and dermatitis?

Eczema is a dry skin condition that makes your skin feel itchy, dry, and irritated. Dermatitis is a type of eczema that’s triggered when you come into contact with something that irritates your skin, such as harsh soaps or disinfectants. Both can affect either small areas of skin or more widespread areas all over your body, commonly affecting hands, feet, and the insides of elbows or knees. When you have a flare-up of eczema or dermatitis, you may experience symptoms such as:

  • Dry skin
  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Blisters
  • Cracked skin
  • Inflammation

How will the Clobetasone Butyrate in Eumovate Cream ease my eczema?

The active ingredient in Eumovate Cream is Clobetasone Butyrate, with a strength of 0.05% w/w. Clobetasone is a type of medication called a corticosteroid, which works by suppressing inflammation wherever you apply it. This means that Eumovate reduces symptoms such as redness and itching that are caused by eczema quickly and effectively.

Can I use this cream if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Eumovate or any other medication. Some medications may not be suitable for you at this time, but a medical professional can recommend a treatment that will be right for you.

Can I use this product if I’m using another medication?

If you’re using any other medication you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Eumovate cream. This especially applies if you are taking:

  • Other corticosteroids, e.g. eczema cream, asthma inhalers, tablets, injections, nasal sprays, eye or nose drops
  • Ritonavir, which is used to treat HIV and AIDS
  • Itraconazole, which is used to treat fungal infections

Can I use this cream on my face?

Eumovate cream is not suitable for use on your face. If you have a flare-up of eczema or dermatitis on your face, we recommend that you speak to your doctor or pharmacist so they can recommend a suitable treatment.

How to use this cream

Before using this product, wash and dry your hands. Squeeze out a line of Eumovate Cream along the top of your index finger, measuring from the crease in your finger to halfway to your fingertip. This amount of cream will cover an area around the same size as the palm of your hand, use this measurement as a guide and reduce if you need to treat a smaller area. Gently rub the cream into your skin once or twice a day. Wash your hands after use, unless you are treating your hands.

Can I buy Eumovate over the counter?

You do not need a prescription for Eumovate Cream, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist 4 U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product. This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that this product is the best choice for you.

Great cream. It has really helped to clear up my eczema and doesn't thin my skin too much like other steroid creams do. I just put a little bit on whenever I get a flare up and I notice a difference very quickly.
