What is Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup?

Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup is a treatment that works to reduce the effects of a dry cough and help with sleep loss that occurs as a result of a cough. The medicine contains three active ingredients that help to achieve this:

  • Diphenhydramine
  • Dextromethorphan
  • Levomenthol

Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that works to reduce coughing and clear mucus in the throat and chest. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant that will reduce the severity of cough and levomenthol is a decongestant that will help by making it easier to breathe.

How can a cough cause sleep deprivation?

Sleep loss can be caused when having a cough because it is easier for irritants that cause the cause to make their way up the throat. This will make a cough worse, making getting some much-needed sleep more difficult. A remedy for this is to incline your head by using some extra pillows. This will allow for fewer irritants in the throat. Though it won’t stop a cough completely.
