Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup is used to provide nighttime relief from dry, irritating coughs. The medication will provide you with a peaceful night’s sleep.

 

How Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup works

Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup contains the active ingredient diphenhydramine hydrochloride which is a drowsy antihistamine. It helps to relieve coughing and dry secretions in the chest. 

The cough syrup also contains levomenthol which helps you to breathe more easily.

 

Directions

Always take Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. 

Take 2 x 5ml spoonfuls at bedtime. Do not take more than 4 doses in 24 hours.

 

Side effects

Like all medicines, Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include: 

 

  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness 
  • Headaches 
  • Difficulty performing tasks 
  • Blurred vision
  • Thickened mucus or dry mouth 

 

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

 

Serious side effects

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.

Warnings

Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or you suffer from lung disease. 

Talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking this medicine if: 

 

  • You suffer from liver or kidney problems 
  • You have bronchitis, emphysema or asthma 
  • You have had a cough for a few weeks 
  • You have difficulty passing water or prostate problems 
  • You are susceptible to glaucoma 
  • You have been told by your doctor you are a slow metabolizer of CYP2D6
  • You have ever been addicted to opioids, alcohol, prescription medication or illegal drugs



Using/taking other medicines

If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this product.

Talk to a healthcare provider if you are taking the following:

 

  • Other cough or cold medicine 
  • Other medications containing diphenhydramine 
  • Antidepressants or antipsychotics 
  • Tricyclic antidepressants 
  • Antihistamines 
  • Anticholinergic drugs 
  • Tranquilisers 
  • Hypnotics 
  • Sedatives 
  • Antiarrhythmic agents 
  • Calcimimetic agents 
  • Antifungals 
  • Opioid analgesics 



Age restrictions 

This product is not suitable for children under 12 years old.

 

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine. 

 

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol if you are taking this medication. 

 

Driving and operating machinery 

Benylin Dry Cough Night Syrup may alter your ability to drive and operate machinery. If you are affected, do not drive or operate machinery until you feel safe enough to do so. 

 

Storage information

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
