Benylin Mucus Cough With Decongestant Syrup is a treatment that helps to relieve mucus coughs and also work as a decongestant to clear a blocked stuffy nose. This liquid contains two active ingredients that help to reduce the effects of a chesty cough. These are:
- Guaifenesin
- Pseudoephedrine
Guaifenesin is an expectorant that loosens the mucus that is caught in the chest, making it easier to be removed. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that helps to improve breathing by unblocking the nose and sinuses.
What is a mucus cough?
A mucus cough, also known as a chesty cough, is a type of cough that is caused when mucus or phlegm is caught in the chest or throat and this leads to a cough. Who is this Benylin syrup medicine suitable for?
This medicine is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over. Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the syrup should not use it. This medicine should also not be used by anyone who has or has had in the past:
- Very high blood pressure
- Heart disease
- Antidepressants called Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
- If you have had a cough for a few weeks
- If you suffer from alcoholism
- Are taking any other medication for a cough or cold

How should Benylin Mucus Cough With Decongestant Syrup be used?
Shake the bottle well before use. Use the included spoon to measure out 5ml doses. Take two 5ml doses at a time, and use every 4-6 hours, up to four times a day. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. If symptoms continue after using, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.
Are there any side effects?
Like with many types of medication, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:
- Skin Rashes
- Itching
- Hallucinations
- Difficulty sleeping
