How Benylin Cold & Flu Day & Night Max Strength works
Benylin Cold & Flu Day & Night Max Strength provides you with two separate capsules. One has been designed specifically for the day and the other for the night.
The day capsule contains paracetamol which works to reduce pain and fever. The use of phenylephrine hydrochloride helps to reduce swelling in the nasal passage, allowing you to be able to breathe more easily. The day tablets also contain caffeine to help combat tiredness and increase pain relief from the paracetamol.
The night capsules also contain paracetamol and phenylephrine hydrochloride but they do not contain caffeine.
Directions
Always take Benylin Cold & Flu Day & Night Max Strength exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you.
2 x red/yellow capsules to be taken in the day time every 4-6 hours. Do not take more than 3 doses a day.
You must leave at least 4 hours between doses.
2 x dark blue/light blue capsules to be taken at night time.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Benylin Cold & Flu Day & Night Max Strength may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:
- Nausea
- Difficulty sleeping
- Tingling and coolness of the skin
If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Warnings
Benylin Cold & Flu Day & Night Max Strength may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take these capsules if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if you have any of the following:
- You have severe heart disease or cardiovascular disorders
- You have high blood pressure
- You have an overactive thyroid gland
- You have an enlarged prostate
- You have a history of stomach ulcers
Talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You have liver or kidney problems
- You have a blood circulation problem e.g. Raynaud’s phenomenon
- You have diabetes
Using/taking other medicines
If you are taking any other medication or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription then talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this product.
You should tell your healthcare provider if you are taking the following medication:
- Anticholinergic drugs (e.g. tricyclic antidepressants, used to treat mood disorders)
- Barbiturates (a kind of sleeping tablet)
- Sympathomimetic drugs (stimulants or appetite suppressants and drugs used to treat congestion or asthma)
- Antihypertensives (e.g. beta-blockers or vasodilators, used to treat high blood pressure)
- Cholestyramine (used to lower blood cholesterol)
- Metoclopramide or domperidone (used to treat nausea and vomiting
- Anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin, used to thin the blood)
- The antibiotic flucloxacillin
Age restrictions
This product is not suitable for children under the age of 16.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.
Driving and operating machinery
This product should not alter your ability to drive or operate machinery.
Storage information
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
