What are Anusol Plus HC suppositories?
Anusol Plus HC suppositories are designed to treat internal haemorrhoids (also known as piles) and reduce any discomfort caused by this condition. Anusol Plus HC helps to relieve itching and swelling in the affected area, providing effective relief fast.
What are haemorrhoids/piles?
Haemorrhoids, also known as piles, are swollen blood vessels which can be found around or inside your anus. The cause of haemorrhoids isn’t clear, but they are associated with increased blood pressure in your blood vessels which causes swelling and inflammation. Many cases are thought to be caused by too much straining when you use the bathroom during periods of constipation.
How does Anusol Plus HC work to treat piles?
Anusol Plus HC contains a combination of active ingredients which work together to treat piles and provide relief from itching and swelling. They also discourage bacteria from growing in the affected area, protecting areas that are raw and sore. These ingredients include:
- Hydrocortisone acetate
- Zinc oxide
- Bismuth salts
- Balsam Peru
- Benzyl benzoate
How to use Anusol Plus HC suppositories
Gently wash and dry the affected area before using Anusol Plus HC suppositories, wash your hands before and after use. Remove one suppository from its plastic cover and insert it into your back passage. Make sure it’s far enough inside that it will not slip out. Insert one suppository at night, first thing in the morning, and after every bowel movement. Do not use more than 3 Anusol Plus HC suppositories a day, and do not use for more than 7 days at a time.
Can I buy this product over the counter (OTC)?
You do not need a prescription for Anusol Plus HC, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist-4-U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product. This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that Anusol Plus HC is the best choice for you.
When should Anusol Plus HC not be used?
Anusol Plus HC is not recommended for use by those under the age of 18. Do not use Anusol Plus HC if you are allergic to this product or any of the listed ingredients. Do not use Anusol Plus HC if you have fungal, viral, or bacterial skin sores. If you have rectal bleeding, blood in your stool, or are unsure whether any bleeding is caused by piles, speak to your doctor before using Anusol Plus HC.
All medicines can have side effects, and Anusol Plus HC is no different, although you may not get these side effects yourself. These side effects include:
- Burning
- Redness
- Irritation
- Itching
- Pain
If you experience these, or any other side effects while taking Anusol Plus HC, speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist right away. Another thing you can do if you notice a side effect is to report it. The way to do this is to use the MHRA's Yellow Card scheme.
