What is Lyclear Dermal Cream?

Lyclear Dermal Cream is topical crab lice and scabies treatment. It contains the active ingredient permethrin which is an effective insecticide that helps to treat infestations of scabies and crab lice and prevent them from spreading. This easy-to-use formula works by killing the scabies mites or crab lice and their eggs. Infestations of scabies or crab lice can be uncomfortable and unpleasant, but Lyclear provides a simple and effective solution to help clear up the infestation and provide relief.

How to use this product

Always use Lyclear Dermal Cream exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. Pierce the tube by removing the cap and reverse it over the nozzle before pushing firmly and turning to pierce the tube lid. Apply the cream to clean, dry, cool skin. Do not take a hot bath or shower immediately before treatment. Carefully apply a thin layer of cream to the skin.

Lyclear Dermal Cream is for cutaneous use only. Do not allow the cream to get into the eyes or come into contact with mucous membranes e.g. inside the nose, throat or genital region or open wounds. If accidental contact occurs, rinse the area thoroughly with water. Adults should apply the cream to the whole body including the neck, soles of the feet and palms of the hands. The head and face do not need to be covered with the product unless this area is affected by scabies. When applying the cream, the areas between fingers and toes (including under the nails) the wrists, elbows, armpits, external genitalia and buttocks should be treated with extra care and caution.

When treating crab lice, any facial hair and eyelashes should be checked for live lice or eggs. Cream should be applied to facial hair carefully and ensure you avoid the eye area. If live lice or eggs are found on your eyelashes, remove them carefully using a pair of tweezers. Do not apply this cream to the eyes.

To treat scabies in adults and adolescents over the age of 12, apply up to 30g of cream; for children aged between 6-12 years, apply up to 15g of cream. For children aged from 2 months to 5 years, apply up to 7.5g of cream. To treat crab lice in adults over the age of 18, apply up to 30g of cream.

One application of Lyclear is usually enough to kill an infestation of scabies or crab lice and the cream should be left on the skin for at least 8 hours. Avoid bathing, showering or washing during this period as it could limit the success of the treatment. After at least 8 hours, take a shower or wash the skin with soap and water. If lice are still found after one treatment, it may be necessary to repeat the treatment after 14 days.

How can Lyclear Dermal Cream help to treat scabies and crab lice?

Lyclear Dermal Cream contains the active ingredient permethrin which belongs to a group of medicines known as pyrethroids. Permethrin is an insecticide which is commonly used to control insects and infestations. Permethrin helps to get rid of scabies and crab lice by affecting their nervous system when they come into contact with it.

It kills them by attacking the nervous system which causes muscle spasm, paralysis and death. Permethrin is toxic to insects as they can’t break it down, unlike larger organisms like dogs and humans. Lyclear Dermal Cream kills the lice and their eggs to prevent them from multiplying.

What are scabies and crab lice?

Scabies and crab lice are both tiny insects that can cause infestations on the body, which result in unpleasant and uncomfortable symptoms. Both scabies and crab lice can be spread through close bodily contact if left untreated so it’s important to treat the issue as soon as you notice any symptoms.
