What are Gavilast Tablets?

Gavilast Tablets are a form of treatment that works to reduce the effects of indigestion, heartburn/acid reflux and also excess stomach acid in the stomach. The active ingredient in these tablets, ranitidine, is a drug that reduces the production of stomach acid.

 

What causes indigestion?

Indigestion is a condition that can affect anyone and the cause be unknown. Stomach acid can irritate the lining of the stomach, and also in the throat. Other causes of indigestion can be medication, smoking, and alcohol. Symptoms of indigestion that are felt can include heartburn, feeling sick, and feeling bloated.

 

Who are these tablets suitable for?

These tablets are suitable to be used by adults and children aged 16 and over. They should not be used by anyone who is allergic to ranitidine or any other ingredient that is contained in the tablets. Anyone who has any of the following should speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using these tablets:

  • Have liver or kidney problems
  • Have or had a stomach ulcer
  • Have breathing problems
  • Have a weak immune system
  • Suffer from diabetes
  • You are under medical supervision for one reason or another

If you are using medication for another condition, you should speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using as well.

 

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these tablets?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should seek the advice of a medical professional before using these tablets.

 

How should Gavilast Ranitidine 12 Hour Relief 75mg Tablets be used?

1 tablet should be swallowed as soon as the first symptoms of indigestion are felt. Use a glass of water to help swallow the tablet. If the symptoms persist for more than an hour or return, then take another tablet. Do not take more than 2 tablets in a 24-hour period. Do not take these tablets for more than 6 days at a time, unless told to do so by a doctor. If symptoms are still a problem after 6 days, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist for advice.

 

Are there any side effects?

As with many types of medication, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • An allergic reaction, including skin rashes, or swelling in the face
  • Kidney problems
  • Hepatitis
  • Pancreatitis
  • Irregular heartbeat

If you notice any side effect, stop using these tablets and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
