What is Movicol Liquid Orange Solution For Constipation 500ml?

Movicol Liquid is an orange flavoured laxative which can help to treat constipation. Just 1 – 3 doses a day can help you to have a comfortable bowel movement, easing even long-term constipation.

Who is Movicol Liquid suitable for?

Movicol Liquid is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over who are suffering from constipation. It can help to ease your constipation even if you have been constipated for a long time, helping you to pass a bowel movement gently and easily.

Why do I have constipation?

There are many reasons why you may be constipated, it’s a common condition that people of all ages can suffer. When you’re constipated you may find it difficult to pass a bowel movement or find that your poo is dry, hard, or lumpy. You may also have a stomach ache, or feel bloated or sick. Some of the most common causes of constipation include:

  • Not eating enough fibre, which is found in fruits, vegetables, and cereals
  • Being dehydrated
  • Changing your diet
  • Changing your daily routine
  • Not exercising or living a sedentary lifestyle
  • Stress, anxiety, or depression
  • Ignoring the urge to go to the toilet
  • A side effect of some medications

How will this product help to ease my constipation?

Movicol Liquid contains an active ingredient called Macrogol 3350, which is an osmotic laxative. This means it works by drawing water into your bowels, softening your poo and helping it to move through the gut so it can be passed comfortably.

Can I take this product if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes, Movicol is safe to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. However, you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before taking this or any other medication at this time. Some medications may not be safe for you and your baby, and a medical professional may need to suggest an alternative treatment.

Can I take this product if I’m taking other medication?

You should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before taking this product if you are taking any other medication. Some medications can interact when used together, making them less effective or causing unwanted side effects. For example, some medications for epilepsy (anti-epileptics) may not be as effective while you are taking Movicol Liquid.

How to take Movicol Liquid

Measure 25ml of Movicol Liquid, which is the same as 5 x 5ml teaspoons, into a glass. Add 100ml of water and stir until all the liquid has been mixed and the solution is clear. Drink the solution right away. Do this 1 – 3 times a day, depending on how severe your constipation is. You will normally need to use this treatment for around 2 weeks if you need to use it for longer than this, speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist right away.

What happens if I take too much of this laxative?

If you take too much Movicol Liquid you may experience excessive diarrhoea, which can make you dehydrated. If this happens, stop using this product and drink plenty of fluids. If you are concerned, speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist right away.
