What is Numark Chesty Cough Expectorant?

Numark Chesty Cough Expectorant is a form of treatment that works to relieve the effects of a chesty cough. The active ingredients in the liquid are:

  • Diphenhydramine
  • Ammonium Chloride

Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that will relieve symptoms of a cold and the flu. Ammonium chloride is the expectorant, that will help to loosen the mucus that is caught in the airways.

What causes a chesty cough?

A chesty cough, also known as a mucus cough, is most often caused by a virus, such as a cold or the flu. It can also be caused by an allergic reaction. A chesty cough is the result of mucus building up in the airways and the cough is the body’s way of trying to remove the mucus.

Who is this medicine suitable for?

This chesty cough medicine is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 6 and over. Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients in the liquid should not use it. This medicine should also not be used by anyone who has been using antidepressants known as Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) for the last 14 days.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this medicine?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

How should Numark Chesty Cough Expectorant be used?

For children aged 6-12, use 5ml of the liquid every 3-4 hours but do not use for more than 5 days at a time. For children aged 12 and over and adults, double the dosage to 10ml if needed.

Are there any side effects?

  • Drowsiness
  • A headache
