What is Ovex Suspension?

Ovex Suspension is a treatment for threadworm, a contagious infection which can affect the whole family. If you’re suffering from threadworm and need a solution that will work for everyone in your household, Ovex can help. Ovex is available in packs of one tablet, a four tablet Family Pack, or this liquid suspension which provides 6 doses. One treatment is all you need to treat a threadworm infection and ease your symptoms within just a few days.

What is threadworm?

Threadworm, or pinworm, is a type of infection that affects your digestive system. It happens when you come into contact with threadworm eggs and swallow them. The eggs will then hatch into tiny, thread-like worms your gut and begin to lay more eggs around your anus. When you have threadworm, some of the most common symptoms you’ll experience include:

  • White worms in your poo which look like strings of white thread
  • Itching around the anus or vagina, especially at night
  • Irritability
  • Waking up during the night
  • Weight loss
  • Wetting the bed
  • Irritation around the anus

How will the mebendazole in Ovex Suspension treat my threadworm?

Mebendazole is the active ingredient in all Ovex threadworm treatments, including Ovex Suspension. It’s a type of medication called an ‘anthelmintic’, which means it treats threadworm by depriving the worms in your system of the sugars they need to survive. Once you’ve taken a dose of mebendazole, you should see an improvement in your symptoms within just a few days, as the worms begin to die out.

Can I use this product if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

You should not take Ovex treatments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you think you have a threadworm infection at this time, speak to your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Can I use this threadworm treatment if I’m taking other medication?

If you’re taking any other medication, including those you obtained without a prescription, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product. This especially applies if you are taking:

  • Metronidazole, which is used to treat bacterial and protozoan infections

Are Ovex treatments suitable for children under the age of 2?

Ovex products are not suitable for use in children under the age of 2. If your baby has caught threadworm and you need a suitable treatment, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
