What is Anusol ointment?
Anusol ointment is a treatment for piles or haemorrhoids which is used directly on the affected area to soothe symptoms of irritation and itching. It also helps to provide protection to sore areas, stopping bacteria from growing and providing relief when you need it most.
What are piles (also known as haemorrhoids)?
Piles, or haemorrhoids, are swellings found around or inside your anus, at least 40% of people have piles in their lifetime. They contain enlarged blood vessels and are usually painless, however, they can cause bleeding when you have a bowel movement. If you have piles, you may also suffer from itching, swelling, or irritation around your anus.
How will Anusol ointment treat my piles?
Anusol ointment contains a combination of three active ingredients which are all used to help treat piles. These three ingredients are:
- Zinc oxide
- Balsam Peru
- Bismuth salts
These ingredients all work to protect the affected area and provide relief to your symptoms of irritation. They also work as antiseptics, stopping bacteria from growing around the affected area.
How to use Anusol ointment.
Before using Anusol ointment, be sure to wash and dry the affected area thoroughly. For external piles, apply the ointment using a gauze dressing. For internal piles, screw the included nozzle onto the tube of ointment and use it to insert a little ointment into your back passage. Clean the nozzle after each use and wash your hands before and after using Anusol.
When should Anusol ointment not be used?
Anusol ointment is not suitable for use by those under the age of 18. If you are allergic to Anusol ointment or any of the listed ingredients, do not use this product. Speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using Anusol ointment if you have rectal bleeding, blood in your stool, or are unsure whether any bleeding you experience is caused by piles.
Like all medicines, Anusol ointment can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. These side effects include:
- Burning
- Redness
- Irritation
- Itching
- Pain
