What is Orajel?

Orajel is a pain relief product designed to relieve toothache until you can get to a dentist. If you’re struggling with a terrible toothache, Orajel will help to keep the pain at bay until your dentist can treat the tooth. Ideal for those who struggle with toothache and need quick and easy pain relief.

Why do I have toothache?

Toothache can be caused by a wide number of different issues with your teeth and gums. Some of the most common causes of toothache are:

  • A broken tooth.
  • A loose filling.
  • A cracked or damaged tooth.
  • Tooth decay.
  • A dental abscess.
  • An infection in the tooth or gum.
  • Problems with braces.

How does this product relieve my toothache?

Orajel contains a concentration of 10% w/w Benzocaine, which works as a local anaesthetic. This means it works wherever you apply it, numbing the area and easing pain caused by toothache. It’s perfect for those suffering from a broken tooth or a tooth which needs a filling, relieving pain at the source.

How to use Orajel.

Apply a small amount of Orajel, around the size of a green pea, and use a clean finger to apply it into the tooth cavity. Avoid drinking hot drinks while using this product. You can use Orajel up to four times every day.

When should Orajel not be used?

Orajel is not suitable for use on children under the age of 12. Do not use this product if you are allergic to sorbic acid or any of the other listed ingredients. If you have been told by your doctor that you have difficulty converting a component in your blood called methaemoglobin to haemoglobin, do not use Orajel. Do not take Orajel if you are taking any antibiotics called sulphonamides, for example, co-trimoxazole. If you experience any side effects while using this product, stop use and speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist right away. You can also record any side effect that you discover using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
