What are Normacol Granules?

Normacol Granules are designed to help to keep you regular and relieve constipation. If you’re struggling with constipation which has stopped you from passing stools at least three times in one week, you could use Normacol Granules to relieve your constipation.

What causes constipation?

There are lots of different things that can cause constipation, and sometimes there is not an obvious reason why you are not passing more than 3 stools in one week. The most common causes of constipation are:

  • Not having enough fibre in your diet.
  • Not drinking enough fluids.
  • Not getting enough exercise.
  • A change in diet or daily routine.
  • Medication.
  • Stress, anxiety or depression.
  • Ignoring the urge to go to the toilet.

How will this product help to treat my constipation?

Normacol Granules contain the active ingredient sterculia, a vegetable gum from the karaya tree. This natural dietary fibre helps to relieve your constipation, keeping you regular.

How to use Normacol Granules.

For adults, use 1 – 2 sachets once or twice a day after meals. Put the dry Normacol Granules onto your tongue either straight from the sachet or from a spoon or your hand. Swallow with plenty of water or a cool drink, drinking enough liquid to ensure that the oesophagus does not become blocked. Never crush or chew Normacol Granules.

When should Normacol Granules not be used?

Normacol Granules is not suitable for children under the age of 6. Do not use Normacol Granules if you are allergic to any of the listed ingredients. Do not use Normacol Granules if you have a blockage in your intestine (gut) or a loss of muscle tone in the colon. Normacol Granules are not suitable for those suffering from faecal impaction.

Like all medicines, Normacol Granules can have side effects, although not everyone will get them. These side effects include:

  • A swollen stomach.
  • Wind.
  • Blocked bowel.
  • Blocked oesophagus (gullet) if Normacol Granules are not taken with enough fluid.
  • An allergic reaction (e.g. itching, rash, difficulty breathing).
  • Pale stool.
  • Diarrhoea and stomach pains.
  • Nausea.
