What are Nicotinell Mint 2mg Extra Strength Lozenges?

These Nicotinell Lozenges are a treatment that is intended to be used as a replacement for a cigarette in the process of quitting smoking. The lozenges contain nicotine, which is in the tobacco in the cigarette. This is known as Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). NRT is used to gradually help to reduce the cravings of nicotine over time, whilst being healthier than a cigarette. These lozenges can also be used as a substitute for a cigarette when smoking is not possible.

What causes nicotine addiction?

Nicotine addiction is the result of smoking and the response that has on the body. When a cigarette is inhaled, the tobacco enters the lunges and the nicotine that it contains gets into the brain. The nicotine on the brain results in a neurotransmitter being released, which controls mood and behaviour. This neurotransmitter is dopamine. When dopamine is released, it gives off the feeling of pressure and improves the mood. Over time as nicotine enters the body, the body becomes more dependent on nicotine. This causes cravings. Cravings can be triggered by behaviours and actions and knowing what these are can help when it comes to quitting smoking.

Who are these Nicotinell lozenges suitable for?

These lozenges are suitable to be used by adults. For anyone under the age of 18, consult a physician before using. The lozenges should not by anyone who is allergic to any of the ingredients that are contained in them. Check with a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using if any of the following apply to you:

  • Have heart disease
  • Had a stroke
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Are diabetic
  • Circulation problems
  • Overactive thyroid
  • Overactive adrenal glands
  • Inflammation of the throat
  • Kidney or liver disease

IF you are using any other form of medication, then you should also consult a professional before advice before using.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these lozenges?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should attempt to quit smoking without the use of any NRT. Should this prove to be too difficult, then some form of treatment should be used. Before using, speak to a medical professional for advice.

How should Nicotinell Mint 2mg Extra Strength Lozenges be used?

These 2mg lozenges should only be used if you have a heavy dependency on nicotine, or you have used the 1mg gum and it did not work. If you smoke less than 20 cigarettes a day, then do not use these lozenges. To use a lozenge, suck on it until the taste becomes strong and then let it dissolve in the mouth by placing it in between the cheek and the gum of the mouth. It should dissolve in about 30 minutes. Use a lozenge when you feel the urge to smoke. Use around 8-12 lozenges, and do not exceed 15 lozenges a day.
