What is Nicorette Fresh Mint Gum?

Nicorette Fresh Mint Gum is a nicotine gum which can help you to manage your cravings as you quit smoking. The 2mg dose of nicotine in this gum makes it ideal for those who smoke less than 20 cigarettes a day, or for those who have began Nicotine Replacement Therapy with 4mg gum and are looking to gradually reduce their nicotine intake.

How can nicotine gum help me to quit smoking?

Nicotine gum is part of a group of treatments known as NRT or Nicotine Replacement Therapy. This means that nicotine gum works by replacing the nicotine that your body usually gets from smoking, helping you to manage your cravings. Over time you can reduce the amount of nicotine in your NRT, which will help you to quit smoking gradually and more successfully than quitting cold turkey.

What happens to your body when you quit smoking?

When you quit smoking, your body experiences withdrawal from the nicotine that you get when you smoke. When you smoke, your body becomes dependent on nicotine, and craves it when you try to quit, causing unpleasant symptoms. This is why many people find it difficult to quit smoking without help, as they struggle to manage their cravings and other symptoms of nicotine withdrawal effectively.

Can I use this gum if I’m pregnant?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this or any other medication. You should try to quit smoking without using NRT first, as quitting as soon as possible will be the best thing for you and your baby. However, if you do struggle to quit smoking without help, your doctor may recommend that you use NRT treatments such as Nicorette gum. These should only be used under medical supervision, as your doctor may need to recommend an alternative course of treatment. If you are breastfeeding and have been recommended this product by a medical professional, you should breastfeed immediately before chewing this gum, as the nicotine in this product can pass to your baby through your breastmilk and this will help you to be sure that the smallest amount possible passes to your baby.

Can I use this product if I’m taking other medication?

If you are taking other medication, you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product. Some medications can interact when used together, causing unwanted side effects or making your medication less effective. You should especially speak to your doctor if you are taking medicines such as theophylline, clozapine, or ropinirole, as the amount of these medications you need may change as you quit smoking and your doctor will need to assess this properly.

Can I take this medication if I’m diabetic?

If you have diabetes you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product. You will need to monitor your blood sugar levels more often while you’re using this product and may need to alter the amount of insulin or other medication you take, which you should only do under medical supervision.

How to use Nicorette Gum

Chew one piece of Nicorette Gum whenever you need help to manage your cravings. Chew the gum slowly until the taste becomes too strong, then let the gum rest between your gum and your cheek. Once taste has faded, continue chewing and repeat for around half an hour. Dispose of the gum appropriately and do not swallow. You may need to take a different strength of gum depending on how much you smoke every day.

  • For those who smoke 20 or fewer cigarettes a day – chew 1 x 2mg piece of gum as needed
  • For those who smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day – chew 1 x 4mg piece of gum as needed

Do not chew more than 15 pieces of gum a day.
