What is Movicol Ready To Take Liquid Laxative Sachets?

This Movicol Liquid Solution is a treatment that is used to relieve the effects of constipation. This works thanks to the 4 active ingredients that are contained in the liquid, which are:

  • Potassium chloride
  • Sodium chloride
  • Sodium hydrogen carbonate
  • Macrogol 3350

3 of the active ingredients are electrolytes that help to restore ones lost as a result of constipation. The other ingredient, macrogol 3350, is a type of laxative that helps to move the bowel contents by increasing the amount of water, without the body absorbing it.

What is constipation?

Constipation is a condition where the bowel does not move as it should, causing difficulties when trying to empty it. There are several reasons why this happens, though the exact reason may not always be obvious. Causes of constipation include:

  • Not eating enough fibre
  • A change in diet
  • A lack of liquids entering the body
  • Not enough exercise
  • Ignoring the urge to go to the toilet
  • A side effect of using certain types of medication
  • Because of stress, anxiety, or depression

Some medical conditions can also cause constipation.

Who is these Movicol Liquid Sachets suitable for?

This liquid is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 12 and over. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the liquid. It should also not be used if you have a blockage in the intestine, a perforated gut wall, or a severe inflammatory bowel disease.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this treatment?

This medicine can be used by someone pregnant or breastfeeding, though it is recommended that a medical professional is consulted before using.
