What is Movicol-Half Powder Laxative For Constipation Sachets?

Movicol-Half is a treatment for constipation that can be used for chronic constipation and also a serious condition known as faecal impaction. These sachets contain 4 different ingredients that all contribute to providing relief for constipation. The ingredients in the sachets are:

  • Potassium chloride
  • Sodium chloride
  • Sodium hydrogen carbonate
  • Macrogol 3350

3 of the ingredients are salts that restore electrolytes that are lost as a result of constipation and macrogol 3350 is a laxative that helps to get the bowel moving again by increasing the amount of water in the bowel.

What causes constipation?

Constipation can be caused by several different conditions, though the actual cause is not always obvious. Causes of constipation can include:

  • Not eating enough fibre
  • A change in diet
  • A lack of liquids entering the body
  • Not enough exercise
  • Ignoring the urge to go to the toilet
  • A side effect of using certain types of medication
  • Because of stress, anxiety, or depression

Constipation can also be caused by some medical conditions.

Who are these Movicol Sachets suitable for?

These sachets are suitable to be used by adults and children aged 12 and over. Anyone allergic to any of the ingredients contained in the sachets should not use them. This treatment should not be used if you suffer from a severe inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. If you have a perforated gut wall or a blocked intestine, then do not use these sachets either.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these sachets?

These sachets can be used by someone pregnant or breastfeeding. Though you should ask a medical professional for advice before doing so.

How should Movicol-Half Powder Laxative For Constipation Sachets be used?

These sachets can be used at any time when needed. To use, dissolve a single sachet into a 62.5ml glass of water (around ¼ full) and stir it until it fully dissolves before drinking.
