What is Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream (HC cream)?

Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream, or HC cream, is a treatment for athlete’s foot and fungal sweat rashes. It targets the fungi and bacteria that cause the infection while working to soothe inflammation and relieve swelling and itching. If you’re suffering from a fungal skin infection and need fast and effective treatment, Canesten HC Cream can help.

What are athlete’s foot and fungal sweat rashes?

Athlete’s foot and fungal sweat rashes are common forms of skin infections. They happen in warm, damp areas of your skin, such as between your toes or between folds of skin. When fungi grow in these places, you can suffer from an infection that causes red, sore, inflamed patches of skin which can become itchy.

How will Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream treat my fungal infection?

Canesten HC cream contains the active ingredient clotrimazole, which helps to fight the bacteria and fungi which cause fungal infections. It also uses hydrocortisone, which is a mild steroid that helps to relieve swelling and itching in the inflamed area. Using hydrocortisone with clotrimazole creates a double-action treatment that can be used to ease a range of infections, including:

  • Fungal sweat rash
  • Athlete’s foot
  • Thrush
  • Jock itch
  • Nappy rash
  • Intertrigo (fungal infection of the breast fold)
  • Ringworm

Can I use this cream for jock itch?

Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream can be used to treat jock itch, which is a fungal infection that affects your groin. Jock itch is a type of a fungal infection called ringworm, so you may notice that your infection appears like a ring or circular rash on your skin.

Can I use this product to treat a nappy rash?

There are different causes of nappy rash, including allergic skin reactions or irritation. If your baby’s nappy rash is caused by a fungal skin infection, then you can use Canesten HC Cream to treat the area and make your baby more comfortable. However, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product on your child, so you can be sure that this is the best and safest possible treatment for them.

Can I use Canesten Hydrocortisone cream for thrush?

Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream can be used to ease external symptoms of thrush in both men and women. However, you should use this product on your genitals if you’re advised to do so by your doctor or pharmacist and remember that this product is for external use only. This product can help to ease symptoms like inflammation, itching, and redness that are caused by thrush.

Will this product affect my contraception?

If you use rubber contraceptives, such as condoms or diaphragms, as your main method of contraception, then you should be aware that using Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream on your genitals can make your contraception less effective than usual. You should use another method of contraception to prevent pregnancy for at least 5 days after using this product, such as the pill or implant.

How to use this product

Apply Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream in a thin and even layer to the affected areas twice a day. Rub in gently. You will only need around 1cm of cream per application. If you are using Canesten HC cream on your foot, make sure to wash and dry the foot thoroughly before applying, especially between the toes.

Can I buy Canesten HC Cream over the counter?

You do not need a prescription for Canesten HC cream, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist 4 U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product. This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream is the best choice for you.
