What are Alli Weight Loss Capsules?

Alli Weight Loss Capsules are clinically proven to help you lose more weight than dieting alone. These effective, easy-to-take capsules stop about a quarter of the fat in your meals from being absorbed. Alli can boost your weight loss efforts, too, meaning that for every 2lb you lose, they can help you to lose an extra 1lb.

What is the recommended dosage?

Always take Alli Weight Loss Capsules exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. You should take Alli Weight Loss Capsules with a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet and exercise program until you reach your weight loss goal.

For adults aged 18 and over, take 1 capsule with every meal that contains fat. Do not take more than 3 capsules per day. While taking this product, it’s recommended to take a multivitamin once a day, at bedtime. This is due to the active ingredient, orlistat, reducing the absorption of some vitamins.

How do Alli Weight Loss Capsules work?

The active ingredient in Alli Weight Loss Capsules is orlistat, a drug designed to combat obesity by targeting the fat in your digestive system. It stops about a quarter of the fat in your meals from being absorbed, passing out of the body in your stools. Alli must be used in combination with a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet. The capsules will assist your efforts by helping you lose more weight compared to dieting alone.

Who are Alli Weight Loss Capsules suitable for?

Your BMI (body mass index) is a measure that uses both your height and weight to see if your weight is healthy. Alli Weight Loss Capsules are designed for those who have a BMI of 28 or over and are considered overweight. If you’re unsure about your BMI, the NHS have a BMI calculator that can do the hard work for you.

Do I need to adjust my diet while taking Alli Weight Loss Capsules?

While taking Alli Weight Loss Capsules, it’s important to follow a reduced calorie, low-fat diet in addition to setting your calorie target. The active ingredient, orlistat, works by targeting the fat in your digestive system and passing it out of your body in your stools. Therefore, if you consume too much fat, you are more likely to experience side effects such as diarrhoea. For this reason, do not exceed the amount of allowed calories and fat content in your meals and snacks. Your calorie target will depend on your gender, your activity levels and your current weight. For more information on calorie targets, refer to the information leaflet provided.

Can Alli Weight Loss Capsules impact the effectiveness of the contraceptive pill?

Not directly, however you may experience diarrhoea while taking Alli Weight Loss Capsules which can reduce the effectiveness of the contraceptive pill. If this happens to you, you should use an extra method of contraception until the diarrhoea has passed.

When should this product not be used?

Alli Weight Loss Capsules may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take these capsules if you are allergic to orlistat or any of the other listed ingredients. Do not take these capsules if you:

  • Have had an organ transplant

  • Are taking cyclosporine

  • Have been diagnosed with a problem absorbing food

  • Are not overweight

Talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking these capsules if you:

  • Are taking any other medication

  • Have gallbladder problems

  • Have kidney stones

  • Have pancreatitis

Are there any side effects?

Like all medicines, Alli Weight Loss Capsules may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. Side effects may include:

  • Gas with oily spotting

  • Loose stools

  • More frequent stools that may be hard to control

For more information on potential side effects, refer to the patient information leaflet. If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
