What is teething?

Most babies start teething around 6 months of age, but it is possible for them to start as early as 4 months and as late as 12 months and in some circumstances some babies can be born with their first teeth. Common symptoms of teething include:

  • The gum is sore and red where the tooth is entering through
  • Flushing (redness) on one cheek
  • Your child is rubbing their ear
  • Dribbling more than issue
  • Gnawing and chewing on things, such as toys, fingers or other objects around them l
  • Distress or fretting

Teething Remedies

Teething can be uncomfortable for your child and distressing for you, but there are steps you can take to help your baby cope with teething symptoms.

  • Teething toys - there are many different types of teething toys, so experiment to find the one that is best for your child
  • Cold - pop a teething toy in the fridge or, depending on your child’s age, use chilled fruit to soothe their gums
  • Teething gel - use teething gels like Bonjela Teething Gel to numb your child’s gums and provide relief from teething pain

How can Bonjela Teething Gel relieve symptoms of teething?

Bonjela Teething Gel contains two active ingredients:

  • Lidocaine Hydrochloride
  • Cetalkonium chloride

Lidocaine Hydrochloride is a medicine known as a local anaesthetic, which can numb and area affected by pain. Cetylpyridinium chloride is an antiseptic which is commonly used to fight bacteria and infections in the mouth. These two active ingredients work together to soothe your child’s gums whilst preventing infection as your child’s teeth enter through the gum. The fast-acting formula provides lasting relief by forming a protective film which soothes and calms gums.
