What is Benylin Chesty Coughs Non-Drowsy?

Benylin Chesty Coughs Non-Drowsy is a medicine that will help treat a chesty cough. It works by breaking down the mucus or phlegm that is causing a blockage which causes a cough. The active ingredients in this syrup medicine are guaifenesin and levomenthol. Guaifenesin is an expectorant which promotes the release of sputum (a mixture of saliva and mucus) to help break down the blockage. Levomenthol eases congestion in the nose, which helps you to breathe more easily.

What causes a chesty cough?

A chesty cough is caused by a virus or infection, such as a cold or flu. It can also be caused by an allergy; such as hay fever. A cough caused by a cold, flu, or allergy is generally short-term but a persistent cough can occur. A persistent cough is caused by conditions such as bronchitis or asthma.

What is the difference between Benylin Chesty Coughs Non-Drowsy and Original?

There are differences between the two Benylin medicines, both of which are intended to treat a chesty cough. There is a different active ingredient, as Original has diphenhydramine instead of guaifenesin but both medicines contain levomenthol. Another difference is that Original is a Pharmacy product, and requires approval from a pharmacist before buying, whereas this Non-Drowsy solution does not.
