What is Bell’s Eucalyptus Oil?

Bell’s Eucalyptus Oil is an oil that is derived from the eucalyptus leaf. It is a treatment that helps to relieve the effects of a cold or flu. It can also be used to treat catarrh. It works by breaking down the mucus that causes the blockage and also narrowing blood vessels that also cause difficulty breathing.

What is catarrh?

Catarrh is a condition that is caused when there is a build-up of mucus that can block the airways, making it more difficult to breathe. Catarrh generally affects the back of the nose, the throat, or the sinuses. It’s most often just a temporary condition, but it can last long term. This is known as chronic catarrh.

Who is Eucalyptus Oil suitable for?

This eucalyptus oil is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 1 and over. Anyone who is allergic to eucalyptus oil should not use this treatment.

Can this treatment be used by someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to a medical professional before using this oil.

How should Bell’s Eucalyptus Oil be used?

It can be used in several ways in order to provide relief.

  • For catarrh – sprinkle a few drops of the oil onto a handkerchief and then inhale the vapour as needed. You can also add some drops of oil to hot water and inhale the vapours from that as required.
  • For sprains and cramps – apply it to the skin by putt some oil onto the hand and applying it to the affected area.

Are there any side effects?

Like with many different medicines, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • Skin reactions such as itching or rashes
  • Inhaling may trigger an asthma attack if you are allergic to the oil

If you notice any side effect, not just the ones listed, stop using and speak to a doctor as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
