Calpol Six Plus Sugar Free Suspension Sachets

Calpol Six Plus sugar free sachets contain individual doses of strawberry Calpol SixPlus suspension.

 

Calpol Six Plus Sugar Free Suspension is used to relieve pain and to bring down a fever (high temperature).

This medicine is suitable for children over 6 years old. It also suits adults who find it easier to swallow than tablets.

 

Calpol Six Plus sugar free oral suspension contains: 250 mg of the active ingredient Paracetamol per 5 ml of medicine.

 

Also contains: Maltitol, glycerol, sorbitol solution, dispersible cellulose, xanthan gum, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), acesulfame potassium and purified water. The flavouring is and imitation white sugar and strawberry.

 

Each 5 ml spoonful or sachet of this product contains 1.4 g of sorbitol.

 

Paracetamol is a painkiller and an antipyretic, which means it reduces fever (lowers a high temperature).

 

Before taking Calpol Six Plus Sugar Free Suspension

This product is suitable for most people but a few people should not use it. If you are in any doubt you should contact your doctor or pharmacist.

 

Do not give your child this medicine if:

He or she has ever had a bad reaction to any of the ingredients

He or she is taking any other paracetamol containing products

 

Take special care with Calpol Six Plus Sugar Free Suspension if:

Your child has any serious kidney or liver problems.

Your child has an inherited intolerance to fructose.

Your child is taking any other medicines including:

metoclopramide or domperidone (used to treat nausea and vomiting)

cholestyramine (used to treat high cholesterol)

anticoagulants (drugs that thin your blood such as warfarin)

anticonvulsants (drugs to treat epilepsy)

 

If you are unsure if the medicine your child is taking is one of   those mentioned above, then show the bottle or pack to your pharmacist.

 

You should consult your doctor if any of the above statements apply to your child.

 

The following additional warnings are included in case an adult is taking this product:

You can use this product while you are taking oral contraceptives (The pill), but it may not work so well on your pain or fever.

If you drink-large amounts of alcohol, you may be more susceptible to the side-effects of paracetamol.

You should ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine in pregnancy or whilst breast-feeding.

Important information about some of the ingredients

Glycerol, and sorbitol can occasionally cause stomach upsets and diarrhoea at high doses. The sorbitol and sucrose content of Calpol Six Plus Sugar Free Suspension means that this product is unsuitable for people with inherited intolerance to fructose. Glycerol may occasionally cause headaches. Maltitol may cause diarrhoea.

 

How to use this product

Calpol Six Plus Sugar Free Suspension has a strawberry flavour and is suitable for children over 6 years. It also suits adults who find it easier to swallow than tablets. There is a single-ended spoon in the pack which holds 5 ml of the suspension. Check the table below to see how much medicine to use.

 

Shake the bottle thoroughly (bottle pack only).

Do not use more spoonfuls (sachets) than shown in the table.

If the pain or fever is not getting better after a few days talk to your doctor.

 

Age Dosage

Children 6-12 years One to two 5 ml spoonfuls (sachets) every 4 hours

Adults and children over 12 years   Two to four 5 ml spoonfuls (sachets) every 4 hours

Children under 6 years Ask a pharmacist to recommend a suitable product

Leave at least 4 hours between doses.

Do not use more than 4 doses each day.

Do not give your child this medicine for more than 3 days without speaking to your doctor.

 

If anybody takes more of this medicine than they should

Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose, even if the child seems well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage.

 

If you forget to give Calpol Six Plus Sugar Free Suspension

Just give the next dose when needed.

Do not give a double dose.

 

Possible side-effects

Like all medicines Calpol Six Plus Sugar Free Suspension can have some side-effects, although these are rare and usually mild. Tell your doctor as soon as is possible if you notice any of the following:

 

Skin rashes or other sorts of allergy.

Very rarely people taking paracetamol can feel unusually tired, get unexpected bruising or bleeding and get more infections (such as colds) than usual.

 

People who use medicines containing paracetamol every day for a long time (several months or more) could get certain side-effects, including liver and kidney damage. People taking paracetamol in the usual way for shorter periods have not had these problems.
