Benylin Children's Dry Coughs contains 2mg of the active ingredient, Pholcodine in each 5ml
It also contains: Maltitol syrup, sodium citrate,citric acid monohydrate, sodium benzoate (E211), flavours (blackcurrant, vanilla), purified water, hydroxyethylcellulose, glycerol and acesulfame K
Before you give your child Benylin Children's Dry Coughs
- Do not give your child this product if:
- He or she has ever had a bad reaction Benylin Children's Dry Coughs, or to any of the ingredients listed above
- Your child has kidney or liver failure
- Your child has an inherited intolerance to fructose or related conditions
- He or she is taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (for depression) or have they stopped taking them in the last 14 days
- Your child is under 1 year
Take special care with Benylin Children's Dry Coughs if:
- Your child have lung or breathing problems
- If your child is taking any other medicines check with your pharmacist before giving them this medicine.
Please talk to your pharmacist or doctor for advice if these statements were applicable to your child as any time in the past.

Ask your pharmacist or doctor for advice before taking this product in pregnancy or whilst breast-feeding.
Important information about some of the ingredients in Benylin Night Coughs
This product contains glycerol, which can cause headaches and may also upset the stomach when taken in large doses. It is important not to take more than the recommended dose.
It also contains sodium benzoate, which may irritate the skin, eyes and mucosal surfaces.
This product contains maltitol (carbohydrate content approximately 1.27g per 5ml). It is unlikely to affect your child's diabetic control.
Sodium content: 7.46 mg/5 ml.
How to give Benylin Children's Dry Coughs
For oral use:
Children aged 6 to 12 years: Give two to three 5ml spoonfuls three times a day.
Do not give more than nine 5ml spoonfuls in 24hours.
Children aged 1 to 5 years: Give one 5ml spoonful three times a day.
Do not give more than three 5ml spoonfuls in 24hours.
Children under 1 year old Not suitable
If anyone takes more than they should, talk to a doctor or pharmacist immediately.
If you forget to give this medicine, just give the next dose when you remember. Do not give a double dose.
Go and see the doctor if your child's symptoms worsen or do not improve after a few days.
Possible side-effects
Like all medicines this product can have side-effects, although these are rare and usually mild.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any of the following: It can occasionally cause nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, or constipation.
